Summa Erotica is a celebration of Timothy Summa’s distinctive vision as a photographer and his exploration of the human body, intimacy, desire, and vulnerability. Through his lens, the erotic becomes more than an image of the body –it becomes a language of emotion, identity, and human connection. Tim’s photographs are at once sensual and contemplative, revealing a fascination with gesture, form, light, and the quiet tension between photographer and subject. His images invite us to look beyond conventional ideas of beauty and sexuality and to encounter the body as both landscape and portrait.

This posthumous exhibition celebrates Tim’s contribution to San Antonio’s photographic community and offers an intimate glimpse into an artist who approached the camera with curiosity, honesty, and an unflinching eye. The exhibit is comprised, mostly of Tim’s erotic photography, experimental Polaroid Transfer images, and some his early work while at UTSA’s MFA program. Tim hardly, if ever exhibited any of his work. After he passed away in 2025, through contact with his sister, we were able to go through his storage space and gather a selection of his prints to assemble this retrospective in honor of his legacy and lifelong passion for photography. –Ramin Samandari & Deborah Keller-Rihn
