The Trouble With Dave – New York Photos. New York is like no other city because of its size and multitudes of everything—businesses, fads, buildings, cultures—that make it a visual stew. Austin-based Ed Malcik is an urban photographer who has been working in New York off-and-on for 10 years, wandering the streets of five boroughs to find odd and curious images of people and the city. The exhibition’s title, The Trouble With Dave – New York Photos, is half of a graffiti slogan which reads in full, “The Trouble with Dave is That He is My Boyfriend.” The slogan sets the appropriate tone for the exhibition. Ed –a former photojournalist and diplomat, now art photographer with emphasis on urban photography– has exhibited at Mockingbird Handprints in the Blue Star Arts Complex since 2012. His last two exhibitions during Fotoseptiembre were Selling The Alamo in 2018, and The Cat In His Underwear in 2019.
