David Silvan’s background is in photography and motion picture production. He has worked in different capacities in US/Mexico film coproductions. He’s also been involved in the production of corporate audiovisual materials, TV commercials, and commercial/advertising photography. His photographic work has been featured in solo and group exhibits in both the US and Mexico, as well as in online galleries. Currently, his photographic work reflects personal interests in various disparate subjects.

As it is, I am always somewhere. And frequently I have to go somewhere else; mostly nowhere exotic. In my day-to-day meanderings I inadvertently come across marvelous little signs; designs and symbols that normally go unnoticed. Finding them is largely the result of me just looking down. Some of these markings evoke a distant past –scars and bruises on a surface, etchings made by time and wear. Some seem like cryptic cyphers posing questions –indicators of something lying beneath their surface. Some are simple and accessible while others invite a deeper layer of engagement. Their impact is visual, visceral and abstract. My reaction to them is instinctive and impulsive. I’m not sure exactly what they mean, if anything, and I don’t expect I’ll work out any of the hidden clues they may contain. –David Silvan
