High School Media Arts Studio :
Experimental Photography
The Media Arts Studio focuses on experimental photography for this year’s Fotoseptiembre exhibit. Using a wide variety of photo transfer and experimental photography techniques, students explored and expanded the power of the image conceptually and physically. Some of the alternative transfer and printing techniques used for these projects include wax paper transfer, liquid light printing, printing on canvas and gel medium transfer nontraditional materials such as metal.
In addition to the various printing and transfer techniques, students explored new concepts related to digital image manipulation through the use of programs such as Adobe Photoshop. Multilayered images and the use of texture, scale and perspective were some of the methods used digitally. By finding new ways of printing, applying, reflecting, attaching and manipulating the photographic image, students experienced the meaning of capturing an image with an entirely different view.
High School Visual Arts Studio : Experimental Drawing
Visual Arts students looked at photography through the lens of “experimental” drawing. Students were challenged to look at photographic references and interpret a graphic medium using traditional and non-traditional drawing tools in unorthodox or unusual ways.
The discovery and invention of new ways of drawing for students mirrored some of the unusual or experimental processes used in photography. Students ultimately created new ways of creating imagery and drawing through this project and discovered new common threads between two different but similar media.
